Vignamaggio, Gherardino 2018 – Chianti Classico Riserva

Vignamaggio, Gherardino 2018 – Chianti Classico Riserva

(organic) The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity with garnet reflections. The nose is refined, complex and expresses tertiary notes harmoniously integrated into the profile of the wine. We find aromas of undergrowth, cedar, wet leaves, dried tobacco, a touch of leather, associated with notes of sweet spices (liquorice, cumin, cardamom, cloves), flowers and dried herbs (dried rose, dried cornflower, dried mint, sage, fresh basil) and a hint of balsamic in the background, enveloped in a fruity substance – notes of dried strawberry, dried raspberry, dried red cherry, fresh morello cherry, cranberries and blackcurrants. On the palate, the wine offers a silky texture of tannins and a firm, but smooth structure. It expresses the flavors of roasted red cherry, fresh morello cherry, morello cherry jam, wild strawberry, raspberry coulis, black plum, blackberry, as well as notes of savoury sweet spices (clove, a hint of licorice and nutmeg), dried flowers (dried rose, dried cornflower), roasted bouquet garni, dried basil, dried oregano, as well as black tapenade and tertiary touches of undergrowth, dry tobacco and wet leaves in the background. The finish is long, warm, slightly jammy and chocolatey, with gourmand notes of chocolate cherry, good coffee bitterness and nice acidity. A refined and harmonious wine, powerful, but elegant.
