Banfi Poggio all’Oro 2019 – Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

Banfi Poggio all’Oro 2019 – Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

The nose requires aeration, and then expresses ripe and macerated fruits (crushed strawberry, ripe morello cherry, macerated morello cherry, crushed raspberry, wild blackberry), balsamic, a touch of gourmet chocolate (mint chocolate, cocoa), roasted and fresh herbs (roasted bouquet garni, fresh thyme), a floral bouquet (lilac, dried rose), fresh tobacco, a very light note of mushrooms in the background and delicate hint of roasting (toasted hazelnut, almond), combined with the freshness of mint and cardamom. The palate is juicy, enveloping and refined. It expresses fruity flavors (crushed strawberry, ripe morello cherry, crushed raspberry, wild blackberry), more acidic than on the nose (red cherry, more pronounced raspberry), mint chocolate, cocoa, toasted hazelnut, almond and cardamom. The tannins are tight, solid and grippy. The finish is persistent, with a salivating acidity, herbaceous touches (dried herbs, tobacco) and morello cherry, a good bitterness of roasting (cocoa, coffee). A solid, fresh, enveloping, chiseled and slender wine, well constructed.
