Cascina Garitina Gianola 2016 – Nizza Riserva

Cascina Garitina Gianola 2016 – Nizza Riserva

The wine has a deep ruby color with garnet highlights. The nose is dense, textured, even velvety, with sweet gourmand notes of dark chocolate and chocolate morello cherry. The nose is restrained at first and benefits from aeration. The herbaceous side is expressive and distinct (dried thyme that appears first, peppermint, rosemary, bay leaf and pine needles). We then find notes of ripe fruit, associated with touches of cooked fruit (but not dominant) of prunes, black plum, chocolate prunes, ripe morello cherry, crushed blackberry, blackberry cream, blackcurrant liquor, as well as vanilla, liquorice, chocolate toasted hazelnut, toast and coffee. We also see a very subtle touch of fresh tobacco and damp leaves in the background. The palate is silky, velvety, with notes of chocolate and dried fruits on the attack (prunes, dried morello cherry). Then, it expresses notes of roasted wild strawberry, ripe morello cherry, chocolate morello cherry, crushed blackcurrant, blackcurrant liquor and blackberry liquor. In the mid-palate, we find herbaceous hints(dried mint, thyme, dried rosemary, dried pine needles and tobacco), associated with spicy touches (licorice, vanilla, clove), toasted (toasted almond, coffee) and cocoa (dark chocolate, bitter cocoa). The tannins are enveloping and melted, but structured. Beautiful acidity and a good refreshing bitterness on the persistence. Good length.
