Erede di Chiappone Armando, Mandola 2015 – Nizza Riserva

The wine has a medium to deep ruby color with garnet highlights. The nose is dense and textured, complex and gourmand (even slightly sweet). Beautiful harmony between fresh and candied fruits: the nose expresses notes of crushed strawberry, juicy morello cherry, red cherry jam, raspberry coulis, crushed fresh blackcurrant, fresh blackberry and blueberry jam. After aeration, we find herbaceous touches (dried mint, fresh rosemary, fresh pine needles, fresh tobacco), refreshing resinous aromas (pine sap, pine bark), as well as delicate spicy touches (liquorice, a hint of anise, caraway and nutmeg). The tertiary notes are quite subtle: in the background, we sense aromas of undergrowth and dried rose, as well as a very light touch of tar. The palate is lively, tangy, with a fresh and fruity attack. It expresses the flavors of fresh blackcurrant, morello cherry, tangy blueberry, raspberry, red cherry jam, as well as a bitter hint of bird cherry. Then, we feel the fresh herbaceous and resinous notes (rosemary, thyme, fresh pine needles, mint, a hint of pine sap), delicate notes of roasting (coffee, bitter almond), tertiary touches (tobacco, dried rose), as well as sweet spices (licorice, anise in the background, caraway). The acidity is chiseled, lively and salivating, the tannins are tight and structured, but not drying. Good length.
