Joseph Mellot La Grande Châtelaine 2019 – Sancerre

Joseph Mellot La Grande Châtelaine 2019 – Sancerre

The wine has a pale lemon yellow color. The first nose expresses woody, spicy and honeyed aromas. We find notes of fresh wood, toasted hazelnut, nutmeg, vanilla in the background (even with a subtle touch of coconut), chestnut honey, as well as fresh bread and toasted brioche. After aeration, the wine offers liveliness and tanginess of citrus fruits (yellow lemon zest, crushed lemon, lime, bitterness of grapefruit), the gourmandize of fleshy stone fruits (white peach, apricot), as well as a floral touch of fragrant fresh lime and acacia, combined with a hint of almond in the background. The palate is complex, dense, sqvoury. The attack expresses woody (toasted hazelnut, fresh wood, toasted wood in the background, even a touch of coconut), spicy (vanilla, nutmeg) and honeyed (chestnut honey, wax) notes. We also find flavors from the batonnage (fresh bread, yeast in the background, toasted brioche), associated with a good bitterness of grapefruit (which persists at the end of the mouth), candied lemon, fresh lemon, gooseberry fresh and in jam, passion fruit as well as the juicy and delicious side of yellow peach and fleshy apricot. The finish is very long, with notes of honey, lime blossom infusion, acacia and candied lemon. Complexity, depth, all elegance.
