Herédias Grande Reserva 2019 – Douro

Herédias Grande Reserva 2019 – Douro

(130 year old vines) The nose expresses density and complexity, but requires aeration to express itself. We then find notes of crushed wild strawberry, morello cherry jam, blueberry jam, fresh morello cherry, blackberry and black plum, as well as an expressive menthol touch (menthol, peppermint), a fragrant floral bouquet (cherry blossom, fresh peony, fresh rose), a perceptible but delicate spiciness (liquorice, nutmeg, clove), a touch of toast, tobacco and balsamic in the background. We also find tertiary notes (under -wood, faded rose) after aeration The palate is straight, structured, quite fresh. It expresses notes of tangy fruits (red cherry, morello cherry, black plum, blackcurrant), a touch of red apple, as well as herbaceous notes (fresh tobacco, peppermint), spiciness (liquorice, nutmeg) and floral (fresh peony, fresh rose). The tannins are quite solid, but have a fine grain and are enveloped in a juicy fruitiness and a nice acidity. The finish is sapid, ample, juicy and at the same time – tangy and airy. It offers a beautiful fruit freshness, airiness, as well as a good bitterness. Good balance, persistence and controlled power.
