Niepoort, Quinta de Nápoles 2018 – Douro

(organic) The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is refined and delicate, with a fragrant floral bouquet and pleasant herbaceous aromas. It expresses notes of dried rose, fresh peony, cornflower and violet, combined with notes of dried mint, dried pine needles and fresh tobacco. We also find juicy fruits– notes of morello cherry, crushed red plum, black plum, dried blackcurrant, dried red cherry and wild blackberry, as well as a delicate spiciness and notes of torrefaction (toasted hazelnut in the background, liquorice, cloves). The palate is round, enveloping and silky, with soft and melted tannins. It expresses notes of juicy morello cherry, red plum, black plum, blackberry, wild strawberry and crushed blackcurrant, combined with gourmet touches of cherry in chocolate, vanilla and liquorice (in the background), nutmeg, as well as chocolate with mint and slightly sweet floral notes (peony, iris). The finish is sapid and velvety, with a powdery hint of cocoa and the gourmandise of cherry in chocolate, refreshed by a nice acidity. Beautiful persistence with notes of dried bouquet garni and tobacco.
