Niepoort, Vertente 2020 – Douro

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose offers juiciness, fresh fruit as well as light herbaceous and mineral touches. It expresses notes of crushed red plum, morello cherry, black plum, wild strawberry, crushed raspberry and wild blackberry, combined with notes of dried mint, dried bay leaf, a hint of eucalyptus, as well as with touches of licorice, white pepper, toasted hazelnut, dark chocolate and dry stone in the background. The palate is supple, fresh and juicy. It expresses notes of morello cherry, crunchy strawberry, crushed raspberry, black plum and wild blackberry, combined with a fine spicy side (liquorice, cumin in the background), a hint of peppermint, fresh tobacco and peony on the background. The finish is quite persistent and expresses gourmet flavors of chocolate cherry, structured but fine tannins, as well as a salivating acidity. A gourmand and airy wine, with a lovely freshness.
