Niepoort, Tinta Amarela 2017 – Douro

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is warming, spicy, chocolatey and fruity. It expresses the aromas of fruit jam (cherry jam, red currant jelly), fresh fruit (juicy morello cherry, wild strawberry, blackberry, crushed blackcurrant), associated with notes of sweet spices (liquorice, even with a touch of anise, grilled vanilla, nutmeg, white pepper), fresh flowers (peony, lily, violet, cherry blossom in the background), aromatic herbs (fresh thyme, a touch of peppermint), as well as tobacco, undergrowth, amarena cherry and prunes in chocolates. The palate is supple, melted and enveloping, with distinct notes of dark chocolate and cherry in chocolate in the attack, which are then completed by notes of black plum, prunes, crushed blackcurrant, juicy morello cherry, wild strawberry and cherry jam. We also find a fine spiciness (liquorice, grilled vanilla, nutmeg, white pepper), floral bouquet (peony, cherry blossom) and fine notes of torrefaction (mild coffee, smoke). Very discreet notes of undergrowth appear at the very end of the palate. The finish is long, juicy, gourmand and finely spicy. The tannins are enveloping and melted, accompanied by a supple but fresh acidity. A harmonious and complex wine.
