Clos de la Barbanne 2021 – Montagne-Saint-Emilion

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is fresh, chiseled and expresses notes of tangy fruits (bigarreau cherry, red currant, blackcurrant, blueberry), completed by a gourmand hint of blackberry and morello cherry. We also find a fine spicy (liquorice, nutmeg) and woody notes (a subtle touch of toasted hazelnut), which do not dominate the fruit. The second nose also offers herbaceous (dried mint) and floral (iris, cornflower) notes. The palate offers a certain volume and juiciness, all with freshness. The attack is fruity and expresses flavors of red cherry, morello cherry, fresh strawberry, crushed blackcurrant in the background and a gourmand hint of blackberry. We then find a delicate spiciness (liquorice, white pepper, a touch of nutmeg), as well as a touch of dried mint and cornflower. The finish is tangy, quite long, with a chalky mineral framework, which appears at the very end of the palate. The tannins are a little dry on the finish, but a salivating acidity balances them.
