Diego Morra, Barolo del Comune di Verduno 2019 – Barolo

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose offers concentration, complexity and gourmandise of ripe fruit, with notes of roasted fruit. After aeration, it expresses a fragrant floral bouquet (rose, lilac, iris and violet in the background), associated with a subtle spiciness (fresh liquorice, cloves, crushed cardamom, Sichuan pepper and juniper berries in the background) and herbaceous (dried mint, bay leaf). We also find notes of juicy morello cherry, roasted red cherry, crushed raspberry, blueberry and a touch of wild strawberry in the background, as well as a hint of torrefaction (coffee) and chocolate cherry. The palate offers roundness on attack, as well as a firm, but fine and powdery tannin structure and an acidic structure, which gives the wine verticality and beautiful freshness. It expresses notes of fresh strawberry, juicy morello cherry, crushed raspberry, blueberry and a touch of roasted red cherry, combined with a savoury spiciness (liquorice, Sichuan pepper, crushed cardamom, juniper berries) which is expressed especially on the finish, with notes of roasted aromatic herbs (thyme, roasted bay leaf, dried mint), flowers (dried rose, iris) and a gourmet touch of chocolate cherry. The tannins are velvety, powdery, even chocolatey, but quite tight and structured. Beautiful acidity and length on the palate, complexity, depth and good aging potential.
