Simone Scaletta Chirlet, Bricco San Pietro 2020 – Barolo

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose offers delicacy, subtle but precise aromas. It expresses notes of fresh strawberry, red cherry, dried cranberries, crushed fresh raspberry with a hint of dried raspberry in the background, as well as a distinct racy minerality (graphite, a dry touch of limestone) and notes of dried herbs (bay leaf, thyme, rosemary, dried mint) and liquorice, which appear after aeration. We also find aromas of fresh rose, lily, as well as a fine hint of torrefaction (toasted almond, coffee). On the palate, the wine is silky, delicate, with a very fine tannin texture. At the same time it has a well-defined structure and a crisp, fresh acidity. On the palate, we find notes of red cherry, fresh raspberry, dried raspberry, crunchy strawberry, cranberries (with good bitterness), dried strawberry, dried bitter orange peel and bergamot (in the background), which adds a bitter and smoky touch. There are also notes of toasted almond, the bitterness of coffee and dark chocolate and herbaceous and floral touches (thyme, rosemary, dried mint, dried rose, lily). The finish is persistent and expresses a slightly drying tannins that we do not have in the mid-palate, a pleasant bitterness and a nice acidity. A well-structured wine, with freshness, juiciness and a certain complexity.
