Domaine de la Commanderie, Les Battereaux 2018 – Chinon

The wine has a deep ruby color. The nose is fragrant and woody at the beginning: it expresses notes of toasted oak, a sappy and resinous touch (pine sap), toasted hazelnut, which develop towards notes of sweet spices: licorice (even star anise) , toasted vanilla, cinnamon, ground nutmeg as well as juniper berries and pink pepper berries. The fruity bouquet is pleasantly refined; it combines notes of fresh red cherry, dried red cherry, morello cherry, fresh blackcurrant and dried blackcurrant, raspberry coulis and wild strawberry. We also find a fine floral touch: notes of violet, rose, peony and dried wildflowers, as well as a herbaceous hint of dried mint, Earl Gray tea and fresh tobacco. The tertiary notes of undergrowth and wet leaves are very subtle and appear in the background. On the palate, the wine is silky, enveloping and melted, with refined and complex flavors. It expresses notes of fresh wild strawberry, dried red cherry, morello cherry, fresh blackcurrant, dried blackcurrant, wild blackberry, combined with a delicate woody and spicy notes (toasted oak, grilled vanilla, toasted hazelnut, cloves of clove, nutmeg, licorice), with a floral and herbaceous touch (violet, rose, dried cornflower, tobacco, dried mint, black tea). The finish is persistent, sapid, juicy and fresh, thanks to a salivating acidity. There are also notes of undergrowth and damp leaves. Beautiful tannic texture: firm, yet delicate and velvety.
