Roger Champault «les Pierris» 2022 – Sancerre

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose offers a lot of freshness and a tanginess of small red fruits. It expresses notes of red cherry, raspberry, red currant, crunchy strawberry and elderberry, combined with floral notes of violet, fresh rose petals, cherry blossoms, as well as herbaceous touches (crushed mint, smokiness of oregano) and discreet hints of sweet spices (white pepper, cloves, a touch of liquorice). On the palate, the wine is chiseled, precise and tangy, with lots of liveliness and salivating acidity. It expresses notes slightly sweeter than those found on the nose : wild strawberry, very ripe red cherry, or even with a hint of jam, red currant jelly, fresh raspberry and raspberry coulis, combined with notes of crushed blackcurrant, cut mint, as well as floral notes of peony, rose petals and dried wildflowers. The tannins are firm, but well structured. They are grippy in the mouth without drying it out thanks to a lively acidity. Good length, with lots of freshness and a slight bitterness. A racy, aromatic, gourmand and straightforward wine.
