Niepoort Unfiltered 2019 Late Bottled Vintage

The wine has a deep ruby color. The nose is deep, concentrated and complex, even textured. It offers notes of very ripe fruit (black plum, blackberry, morello cherry), blackcurrant jam with a fine tanginess in the background, morello cherry jam, crème de cassis, prunes in chocolate, cherry in kirsch, as well as a certain freshness of crushed peppermint, mint chocolate, a savoury spiciness (ground cloves, a hint of nutmeg, white pepper), a touch of torrefaction (ground coffee, toasted bitter almond), as well only a very slight note of graphite and dried wild flowers in the background. The palate is rich and ample, but at the same time, it offers straightness, accuracy and complexity. It expresses notes of tangy and slightly tannic wild plum, very ripe juicy morello cherry, crushed wild strawberries, raspberry jam, a touch of plum and prune jam in the background, with a good perceptible bitterness, which balances the rich sweetness of fruit. We also find notes of dark chocolate, dried mint in the background, coffee, toasted almond, a touch of graphite and a very fine note of peony. The tannins are powerful, but very fine and velvety. Beautiful acidity and persistence on the palate, which expresses more the tannins and the good bitterness of the wine.
