Robert Mondavi – To Kalon Vineyard – Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2013 – Oakville – Napa Valley

(88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petite Verdot) The nose is fine, elegant, nicely straight and offers freshness and subtlety. It reveals notes of cassis, black cherry and touches of Boysen associated with fine touches of wild berries, cocoa, wood as well as fine touches of caramelization. The palate is fruity, gourmand, elegant, harmonious, unctuous, delectable, velvety, melodious, nicely powerful and offers a beautiful matter, a beautiful definition, a nice tannic structure and a small mineral frame. On the palate this wine expresses notes of blackberry, cassis, red cherry and touches of blackberry jam associated with fine touches of cocoa on the finish, a fine hint of wild strawberry as well as a discreet hint of coconut and wood. Tannins are fine, elegant, polished and structuring. Good length and persistence. An amazing and powerful wine. It’s currently very young but very promising.
