Les Caillones – 2020 – Montagne-Saint-Emilion

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose offers brightness, complexity, a fresh but rich fruity bouquet, as well as a delicate floral, spicy and herbaceous aromas. The wine expresses notes of ripe red and black fruit (morello cherry, wild blackberry, black plum, red cherry, blueberry, wild strawberry, crushed strawberry), roasting (ground coffee, toasted), roasted aromatic herbs (thyme, bay leaf), dried mint, sweet spices (clove, liquorice, cumin, white pepper), a touch of cocoa powder and flowers (fresh cornflower, dried rose petals) as well as a light toasted touch in the background. On the palate, the wine expresses a rich and ripe fruity bouquet, concentration and depth. We find the flavors of juicy black and red fruits (black plum, morello cherry, blackberry, wild strawberry, raspberry coulis, red currant jam, crushed strawberry), sweet spices (licorice, white pepper, clove), chocolate prunes, cocoa powder, as well as a freshness and elegance of dried aromatic herbs (peppermint, thyme, rosemary), sweet spices (licorice, nutmeg), flowers (lilac, dried rose petals) and a note of smoked meat in the background. The tannins are well-built, firm, but refined, and give the wine a solid structure on the palate. The finish is persistent and tight due to the youth of tannins and lively acidity, but round, generous and fruity. Nice concentration and a nice concentration on the palate.
