Edmond Cornu & Fils, Vieille Vigne 2021 – Aloxe-Corton

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose is open, precise, with lots of fruit and a pleasant tanginess. The first nose is round, slightly sweet and expresses notes of morello cherry, red cherry jam, fresh wild strawberry, crushed raspberry and blueberry, associated with floral notes (fresh cornflower, lily), a herbaceous touch (menthol, wild mint, fresh thyme), as well as a hint of citrus (bergamot in Earl Gray tea) in the background. There are also aromas of integrated and refined sweet spices (licorice, see star anise, cloves, nutmeg, a hint of vanilla), as well as a hint of roasting (sweet coffee, toasted hazelnut). On the palate, the wine offers a ripe, expressive fruity texture, with a fine sweetness of jammed fruits and sweet spices. It expresses the flavors of morello cherry, red cherry jam, wild strawberry; crushed raspberry and crushed blueberry, combined with notes of licorice, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, as well as a touch of toasted hazelnut, cocoa and caramel in the background. The finish offers roundness, ripe and sweet fruit, as well as more expressive spicy notes than in the mid-palate (notably vanilla, cloves, as well as cocoa). Beautiful acidity and a refined, velvety texture of tannins. An open, gourmand and delicate wine.
