Camille Giroud Le Clos du Roi, Grand Cru 2019 – Corton

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose is bright, tasty and spicy. It expresses notes of sweet spices (licorice, cinnamon), torrefaction (a delicate note of ground coffee, roasted meat and toasted bread), a touch of pine sap, cut rosemary sprig, menthol, peppermint as well as dried rose, lily, peony and cornflower. There is also a nice concentration of fruity bouquet that is more expressed after aeration: notes of fresh wild strawberries and jam, Bigarreau cherry, Morello cherry, blueberry, blackberry and blackcurrant. On the palate, the wine is aerial, delicate and elegant. It expresses rather fruity and floral flavors of wild strawberry, Garriguette strawberry, red cherry, blueberry and red currant, accompanied by notes of fresh cornflower, peony, rose and lily. On the finish, we feel more spices: white pepper, licorice, cloves, nutmeg with a hint of toasted bread and roasted aromatic herbs. There is roundness, delicacy and gourmandize on the palate, accompanied by solid but very fine and round tannins, as well as a very pleasant tangy structure. Great length and good balance.
