In 2017 the legendary Fête de la Fleur will be held at Château Malartic-Lagravière
The Commanderie du Bontemps du Médoc, Graves, Sauternes and Barsac celebrate the Gods’ nectar in Pessac-Léognan
On Wednesday, June 21 2017 the famous Château Malartic-Lagravière (Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé de Graves) will host the traditional and prestigious Fête de la Fleur (Flower Festival). This festival is traditionally held on the last day of Vinexpo. It will also be a great opportunity to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the acquisition of this beautiful Pessac-Léognan’ Château by the Bonnie family.
What is the Fête de la Fleur?
Originally created in 1950 by the Commanderie it becomes in 1959, following the alliance of the Medoc and Graves (Sauternes, Graves, Pessac-Léognan) “La Fête de la Fleur“.
Why celebrate a flower? This celebration marks the beginning of the vine flowering, a small, delicate and ephemeral flower that is eagerly awaited each year by the winemakers/winegrowers. “Conventional events related to the vineyard, St. Vincent, Ban des Vendanges existed and they only needed to be reinforced by a celebration. ”
Today the Fête de la Fleur has become the festive rendezvous of winemakers, traders, brokers, professionals and wine lovers from everywhere. They come to share, for an evening, their passion for great wines around concoct dishes prepared by famous cuisine chefs. Many French or foreign personalities and celebrities have graced this world-renowned festival that contributes to the influence of the great Bordeaux wines around the world.
Each edition the Fête de la Fleur brings together 1,000 to 1,500 guests. Last year this event was held at the Bordeaux Jardin Public. Many famous wine estates in the region have already hosted the Fête de la Fleur: Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Lascombes, Château Lagrange, Château Montrose …
