The Consortium will attend L’Altra Toscana in Florence on February 20.
Bottled +10%: growth data confirm the success of the denomination
In 2025, the Consortium for the Protection of Montecucco DOC and DOCG Wines celebrates an important milestone: 25 years since its foundation. A quarter of a century dedicated to the enhancement of an authentic territory suited to viticulture, which today can finally celebrate significant growth after complex years marked by climate challenges and difficulties related to the pandemic.
2024 closes with a significant increase in both production and bottled wine. The 2024 harvest saw a 41% increase in grapes delivered to the cellar compared to the previous year, going from 12,682 quintals in 2023 to 17,924 quintals. Bottled wine also recorded a strong +10%, with 5,500 hectoliters in the DOC and DOCG categories, equivalent to just over 720 thousand bottles in the 0.75-liter format, as well as a few thousand in other formats.
« At last a year that lets us catch our breath after a series of complicated seasons and that fills us with satisfaction and optimism for the future of our denomination, » commented Giovan Battista Basile, President of the Consortium for the Protection of Montecucco Wines. « Growth data confirm the value of our territory and the production choices of our companies, increasingly oriented towards quality and sustainability. »
The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Consortium will be announced at L’Altra Toscana 2025, which will take place on Thursday 20 February at Palazzo degli Affari in Florence. The event, now in its fourth edition, once again brings together thirteen DOP and IGP denominations – Montecucco and Montecucco Sangiovese, Maremma Toscana, Cortona, Chianti Rufina, Terre di Casole, Suvereto, Val di Cornia and Rosso della Val di Cornia, Carmignano, Barco Reale di Carmignano, Vin Santo di Carmignano and IGT Toscana – with the aim of revealing the lesser-known excellences of Tuscan winemaking, territories from the hills to the sea with a unique history and identity.
In Florence, the Montecucco Consortium is back on stage with a selection of 33 labels representing all the appellation’s typologies, including Montecucco Vermentino DOC, Rosso DOC, Rosso Riserva DOC, Sangiovese DOCG, Sangiovese Riserva DOCG and Vin Santo DOC. « L’Altra Toscana is a key event for us: an opportunity to tell our story to journalists and professionals, conveying the value and tradition of a territory that is still to be discovered – underlines Basile – We present different vintages, chosen based on the stylistic features of each company and the great longevity of our wines, which allow us to offer labels on the market at the ideal stage of their evolution ».
Finally, Montecucco confirms, year after year, an increasingly green commitment. Sustainability remains at the heart of the Consortium’s production philosophy. According to the recent sustainability report, based on a survey led among the member companies, organic-certified production today easily exceeds 90%. Data that demonstrate the growing commitment of the denomination in the protection of biodiversity, responsible management of resources and respect for the environment, values that represent the beating heart of the identity of Montecucco. It is also worth remembering that last November the Montecucco Organic District was officially established, the tenth in Tuscany, to strengthen the role of the region as a national leader in terms of sustainability and to enhance and protect the territory and local agricultural traditions.
