Quinta do Estanho 2016 – Late Bottled Vintage

Quinta do Estanho 2016 – Late Bottled Vintage

The wine has a deep ruby color. The nose is fragrant, savoury and spicy, with pleasant refreshing herbaceous touches. It offers concentration, precision and expresses notes of dried blackcurrant, dried red cherry, morello cherry jam, morello cherry in kirsch and chocolate, crème de cassis, crushed fresh blackcurrant, as well as wild plum. We also find minty herbaceous notes, dried peppermint, fresh tobacco, mint chocolate, a hint of basil and a fine hint of torrefaction in the background (mild coffee, even coffee with milk, toasted hazelnut, toasted brioche), a fine spicy hint (white pepper, licorice, grated nutmeg, vanilla in the background) and a subtle floral bouquet (dried rose, iris). The palate is silky, full and round, with a velvety and enveloping tannic texture, a rich fruitiness and gourmandize. It expresses notes of blackcurrant jam, cherry morello cherry, crushed blackberry, crushed wild strawberry, crème de cassis and blackberry liqueur, combined with a fine bitterness of dark chocolate, cocoa and coffee, and savouriness of sweet spices (licorice, ground nutmeg, cloves, a delicate hint of vanilla), as well as floral (dried rose, iris) and herbaceous (dried peppermint, tobacco) notes in the background. The tannins are powerful, even a bit dry in the mid-palate, but balanced by a rich fruitiness and a salivating acidity. Structure, power of tannins and gourmandise.
