La Jota Vineyard – Merlot 2018, Howell Mountain – Napa Valley

La Jota Vineyard – Merlot 2018, Howell Mountain – Napa Valley

The nose is elegant, delicate, racy and reveals a beautiful freshness. There are notes of fairly ripe/fresh blackberry, ripe/fresh blackcurrant and more lightly crushed raspberry combined with fine touches of violet, nutmeg, a very discreet hint of undergrowth and a subtle hint of sense of place and truffle. The palate is fruity, balanced and offers juiciness, freshness, a nice definition/dicacy, minerality, tension, sapidity, a very nice acidity as well as a very discreetly tight structure. All about freshness and elegance. A beautiful freshness linked to the altitude at which the vineyard is located. On the palate this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, fairly ripe blackcurrant and more lightly sense of place/fresh local grove combined with delicate touches of cardamom, salinity, racy minerality as well as a subtle hint of fairly ripe wild berries, pepper and a very discreet touch of vanilla. The tannins are fine, elegant, delicate, structuring, nicely defined and fine.
