Château Boyd-Cantenac 2020 – Margaux Grand Cru Classé

Château Boyd-Cantenac 2020 – Margaux Grand Cru Classé

The wine has a deep ruby color. The nose is aromatic, with complexity and substance. The first nose is warming and expresses lots of spices: toasted cumin seeds, grated nutmeg, ground cloves, licorice, as well as a sweet side of cinnamon and vanilla, associated with a touch of torrefaction (coffee, toasted hazelnut). On the second nose, we find floral notes (peony, violet, wild rose), as well as straightness and juicy fruits: notes of fresh morello cherry, bigarreau cherry, crushed blackcurrant, blueberry and wild blackberry, as well as delicate herbaceous and resinous notes (blackcurrant leaf, wild mint, pine needles, fresh tobacco). On the palate, the wine is generously fruity (even with a touch of sweetness), with an open and round attack, but a firm tannic structure, a bit drying, due to the youth of the wine, and a slight bitter. The flavors are rich and concentrated, very juicy. We find notes of fresh morello cherry, red cherry jam, fresh crushed blackcurrant, fresh wild strawberry, crushed raspberry, cranberry jam, associated with notes of sweet spices (licorice, cumin, crushed coriander seeds, clove; a sweet touch of vanilla and cinnamon), torrefaction (coffee, a hint of caramel and toasted hazelnut), aromatic herbs (wild mint, dried rosemary) and flowers (violet, peony). The finish is long, silky, chocolatey, and expresses a lively acidity, which softens the young tannins. Elegance and controlled power.
