Vinitaly 2025: the wait is over, it’s time to discover in which direction the world of wine is heading.

Italian wineries consider Vinitaly 2025 as an essential barometer to assess wine market trends, particularly in light of changing consumer tastes, the rise of low- or no-alcohol wines, and the increasingly noticeable consumption crisis.

Recently, the Italian Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, authorized the commercialization of grape-based drinks with an alcohol content of less than 0.5% under the designation “dealcoholized wine.” This decision aims to respond to the decline in wine consumption in Italy, influenced by health and lifestyle concerns.

At the same time, global trends in 2025 show a growing interest in wines with low alcohol content, often below 11.5% ABV, in response to tax changes and a demand for lighter styles. Disease-resistant grape varieties, such as Piwi, are gaining popularity, as are Mediterranean varieties suited to hot and dry conditions. Additionally, styles such as orange wines, light red wines to be served chilled, and “appassimento” wines are seeing a rise in popularity.

However, this shift towards low-alcohol wines takes place within a context of a consumption crisis, with a continuous decline in demand for traditional wine. Producers must therefore adapt to these new preferences while navigating a complex market.

Vinitaly 2025 will serve as a platform for Italian producers to assess these trends and adjust their offerings accordingly, reflecting the current challenges and opportunities in the wine industry.
