2025 Pinot Grigio Harvest Underway

The 2025 harvest of Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie is officially underway. As Italy’s largest and most integrated DOC, covering Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and the autonomous province of Trento, the denomination is showing promising signs both in quality and quantity, with a slight increase in production compared to the last two smaller vintages.

“We are excited to begin a harvest that combines quality, innovation, and sustainability,” said Luca Rigotti, President of the DOC Delle Venezie Consortium. “Our experiments with lower-alcohol Pinot Grigio are a strategic project aimed at meeting changing consumer preferences for lighter wines with reduced caloric impact, fully aligned with our partnership with Wine in Moderation.”

Regional Outlook

Friuli-Venezia Giulia Matteo Lovo, President of the regional Assoenologi, reports one of the healthiest seasons in recent years, with minimal disease pressure and favorable weather. “Harvest will start this week and is expected to finish in about ten days. Quality is improving, and production is projected to increase by 5–10% compared to 2024. Some areas will naturally produce lower-alcohol Pinot Grigio due to an earlier harvest.”

TrentinoFurio Battelini, newly appointed President of the regional Assoenologi, highlights an early vegetative cycle and a good balance of sugars and acidity thanks to temperature variations. “Harvest will begin in the coming days and continue until mid-September. We expect production to rise slightly above 2024 levels, with pockets of exceptional quality. Our region is leading the way in lower-alcohol Pinot Grigio production.”

Veneto – Michele Zanardo, President of the Veneto Orientale Assoenologi, notes a regular season and excellent vine health, with harvest starting in the last week of August. Alberto Marchisio, President of the Veneto Occidentale Assoenologi, confirms healthy grapes and accelerated maturation compared to 2024, with quality and quantity consistent with recent years.

Supply Management and Sustainability

For the 2025 harvest, the DOC Delle Venezie Consortium approved a reduction in maximum yield from 180 to 170 quintals per hectare and mandatory storage of 20 quintals per hectare to ensure a balanced market. Stefano Sequino, Consortium Director, emphasizes that these measures help maintain market stability, enhance the denomination’s value, and support steady growth in international markets.

With the harvest underway, DOC Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio continues to stand out not only for its quality and tradition but also as a hub of innovation for a sector increasingly focused on sustainability and evolving consumer preferences
