The Cordero family belongs to the village of Priocca as much as the village belongs to them. This renowned town in the Roero region has hosted generations of people dedicated to preserving the traditions that make Piedmont so beloved, from homemade pasta to outstanding Nebbiolo-based wines. This is precisely the context for the delightful project of Gabriele and Serena Cordero, children of Gianfranco, a talented enological consultant.
The wine’s name, ‘Fuschia,’ actually comes from the plant, but this detail pales in comparison to its significance as a vibrant homage to Roero Nebbiolo: colorful, intensely fragrant.
Let’s start from the beginning: father and children launched this personal yet inclusive project in 2016, ad personam proomnibus – we could said – under the name Gabriele Cordero in 8 hectares owned, all in Priocca except for one in Vezza d’Alba. It reflects their artisanal approach to grapes and the unique qualities imbued by the selected vineyards, resulting in wines that are, in every sense, impressive and juicy. Each parcel was carefully chosen to plant specific grape varieties based on its soil and microclimate characteristics. Their expertise has even allowed them to take risks, vinifying grapes not typically associated with the Langhe, such as Timorasso, Riesling, and Bianver, alongside the more traditional Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Arneis.
Gabriele manages the vineyard, while Serena oversees the cellar, opting for short fermentations and exclusively stainless steel for this Langhe Nebbiolo Doc ‘Fuschia.’ The grapes come from young vines planted on predominantly sandy soils with a south-west exposure. The result is a wine with a bright, luminous color and an olfactory spectrum that seduces with floral notes but especially with aromas of wild strawberries, small red berries, and cherries, complemented by balsamic touches.
The sip is captivating, playful, and immersive, with a broad and present tannic structure, rich and fibrous, enriched by a subtle iodine finish. Although youthful, it is already perfectly enjoyable today. A wine to be savored at any moment.
