One of the most prestigious and spectacular offshore regattas in the Mediterranean
The race will start next Tuesday, 20 August, in front of the historic headquarters of the “C.V.S. – Circolo della Vela Sicilia“, against the picturesque backdrop of the Gulf of Mondello.
Tasca d’Almerita is committed to preserving and enhancing the natural and cultural heritage of Sicily and the Mediterranean, as well as raising awareness and protecting the marine ecosystem.
Tasca d’Almerita, historical partner of the Palermo-Montecarlo Offshore Regatta since its first edition in 2005, confirms its participation for 2024 with the prestigious trophy dedicated to Giuseppe Tasca, highlighting the historical and cultural importance of the family in this event. The highly coveted and spectacular sailing competition, which links the two shores of the Mediterranean, will start on Tuesday 20 August from the headquarters of the Circolo Vela Sicilia – the organising club of the regatta and the challenger club in the America’s Cup with “Luna Rossa” – in the picturesque Gulf of Mondello. The race will finish after more than 500 miles under the Rocca Grimaldi in the picturesque bay of the Principality of Monaco.
This collaboration is rooted in a deep bond based on Tasca d’Almerita’s commitment to the protection and preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of Sicily and the Mediterranean, as well as the promotion and protection of the marine ecosystem.
“The Palermo-Montecarlo is much more than a sailing competition; it is an ancient celebration of the sea and our shared history. At the centre of it all is the Mediterranean Sea, a vital ecosystem whose health is being threatened by climate change, which is why we must protect and enhance it. It is an honour for our family to continue to support this event, which embodies the values of sustainability and respect for nature,” says Alberto Tasca, who now runs the historic Sicilian winery.
The Palermo-Montecarlo is a historic regatta that ideally links the two shores of the Mediterranean, with Sicily as the central and main island. The Tasca d’Almerita family, always a promoter of values linked to the love of the sea and nature, renews its support for this competition, now in its 19th edition.
Tasca d’Almerita is one of the main supporters of the SOStain Foundation, a sustainability programme that aims to promote the best practices for respecting the ecosystem. This commitment is also reflected in its support for the Palermo-Montecarlo, which is seen as an exceptional opportunity to raise public awareness about the protection of the Mediterranean.
The Circolo della Vela Sicilia – organiser of the regatta – was founded in 1933 by Count Giuseppe Tasca d’Almerita, who was its president in 1982. The collaboration with Tasca d’Almerita also celebrates Count Giuseppe’s passion for sailing, as he has always supported the event since its first edition, wishing to bring together the best helmsmen and offshore sailing professionals in the world to the Gulf of Mondello.
The 2024 Giuseppe Tasca d’Almerita Trophy – created by Count Giuseppe – will be awarded to the first boat to finish in real time, continuing the tradition of excellence and competitiveness that characterises this regatta.
