From 6 to 15 September, 10 days dedicated to wine celebrations, culture and tradition in the heart of Monferrato area
The countdown is on for the first Barbera d’Asti Wine Festival, which will be held in the city of Asti from Friday 6th to Sunday 15th September. The event, organised by the Consorzio Barbera d’Asti e Vini del Monferrato in collaboration with Corriere della Sera, the event’s media partner, is part of the “National Strategy for the Valle Bormida hinterland” led by the Unione Montana Alta Langa – Operation 16.7.1, of which it is a partner.
From 6 to 8 September, under the artistic direction of Luciano Ferraro, deputy editor of the Corriere della Sera, a rich programme of thematic meetings will be held with prominent guests from the world of wine, cinema, literature, art and business. These will be hosted by Corriere della Sera editors Luciano Ferraro, Roberta Scorranese and Isidoro Trovato.
The Barbera d’Asti Wine Festival continues from 9 to 15 September with masterclasses and tastings led by top Italian and international wine experts, including Robert Camuto, Veronika Crecelius, Gianni Fabrizio, Aldo Fiordelli, Andrea Gori, Othmar Kiem, Jeff Porter, Andrea Radic and Marco Sabellico. There will also be in-depth discussions on the excellence of Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato, as well as tastings in the streets and squares of Asti’s historic centre.
Meetings, masterclasses and tastings will take place during the day in the historic Palazzo del Michelerio, a former 16th century convent.
To entertain the public and add a cultural and artistic dimension, some evenings of the festival will feature live concerts and musical performances in the courtyard of Palazzo Alfieri.
“The Barbera d’Asti Wine Festival,” says Vitaliano Maccario, President of the Consortium, “is an opportunity for us to promote our area and the Barbera grape on the international stage. Through these days, we want to further strengthen and promote the identity and visibility of Barbera d’Asti and our denominations – 4 DOCG and 10 DOC – and increase their prestige worldwide. It is an unmissable opportunity for wine lovers, as well as the press and industry professionals, to deepen their understanding of Monferrato wines and increase awareness of the viticultural value of our wonderful territory”.
Admission to the event can be obtained by purchasing a ticket on site or via the Consorzio Barbera d’Asti website, which is valid for one day and allows participants to attend all of the day’s events.
