Vallepicciola

Vallepicciola, where international meets local

Nestled in the picturesque hills of Chianti Classico, just a short drive from Siena, Vallepicciola stands as a testament to Tuscany’s rich winemaking heritage. Established in the late 1990s by the Bolfo family, the estate transformed the ruins of an old monastery in Pievasciata into the luxurious 5-star Hotel Le Fontanelle, blending impeccable hospitality with sustainable viticulture.

Spanning approximately 275 hectares, Vallepicciola boasts 107 hectares of vineyards and over 4,000 olive trees, contributing to its diverse ecosystem. The vineyards are home to both indigenous Sangiovese and international varieties such as Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. This diversity allows the estate to produce an impressive annual output of 600,000 bottles across 15 distinct labels.

In 2020, Vallepicciola unveiled its state-of-the-art winery, a 6,000-square-metre facility designed by architect Margherita Gozzi. This architectural marvel, harmoniously integrated into the Tuscan landscape, spans three levels—two of which are subterranean—dedicated to various stages of wine production. The above-ground level serves as a welcoming space for guests, reflecting the estate’s commitment to hospitality.

Under the guidance of winemaker and general manager Alessandro Cellai, Vallepicciola has garnered international acclaim. Notably, their 15-euro Chianti Classico 2021 with 92 points secured the 37th position in Wine Spectator’s prestigious Top 100 Wines of the World 2024.

Beyond its renowned Chianti Classico, Vallepicciola’s portfolio includes a range of wines that capture the essence of the Tuscan terroir. From the elegant Vallepicciola Toscana Bianco IGT, a 100% Chardonnay wine with notes of orchard fruits and soft acidity, to the robust Vallepicciola Toscana Rosso IGT, a pure Sangiovese offering a harmonious blend of ripe red cherries and subtle hints of tobacco and savoury Mediterranean herbs, each bottle tells a unique story of the land.

Vallepicciola is more than a winery—it is a celebration of Tuscan heritage, a testament to the art of winemaking, and a destination for those seeking the finest expressions of the land’s timeless allure.
