Lima & Smith, Tecedeiras Douro Grande Reserva : 2020 – Douro

The wine has a deep ruby color. On the nose, it is reserved and requires aeration. It then expresses a racy minerality (dry stone, graphite), associated with notes of herbs and dried flowers, as well as a generous and ripe, but refined fruitiness. We find notes of ripe red cherry, morello cherry, wild strawberry, crushed blueberry, crushed blackcurrant (even crème de cassis), wild strawberry jam and dried cherry, associated with refreshing notes of menthol, dried mint, violet, peony, tobacco, crushed laurel berries, sweet spices (fresh vanilla, liquorice, white pepper, nutmeg), as well as some oakiness and fine and gourmet notes of torrefaction (coffee , toasted hazelnut, a touch of caramel). On the palate, the wine is round, refined, with a good balance between fine ,but tight tannins and juicy and fresh fruity texture. The fruity flavors are ripe and fresh, not overripe or jammy: we find in particular notes of morello cherry, fresh blackcurrant, fresh wild strawberry, crushed raspberry, a tangy hint of blueberry, as well as menthol notes, liquorice, fresh vanilla, nutmeg, tobacco and an elegant floral bouquet (peony, fresh rose, violet). The texture in the mouth is smooth and enveloping. The finish is expressive, sapid and offers notes of morello cherry and plum in dark chocolate, as well as fine, powdery tannins and refreshing acidity. Beautiful persistence and concentration, all in elegance. A wine with character and great aging potential.
